TotalEnergies search for data governor

Recent job ad shows how data management has transmogrified from early geoscience focus to IT.

A TotalEnergies job ad for the position of data governance and culture lead in Aberdeen, UK illustrates how data management has evolved from its early geoscience focus to become much more IT-centric. The ‘mid-senior level’ position in TE’s Technology Data and Innovation (TDI) unit asks for a strong technical background in data governance and excellent communication skills to ‘drive a change in data culture across TEPUK’.

The new TDI function is ‘defining and implementing a data foundation based on the principals of the data mesh’. Data governance is described as growing discipline in TE that is ‘fundamental to the facilitation and utilization of data as an asset’. Leading a small data governance and culture team, the role involves the definition and ‘animation’ of a data culture including a data governance roadmap for geoscience and surface data management leveraging a ‘data domain platform’.

Requirements for the new position include an understanding of data governance concepts and practices, ‘especially the Data management association’s Data management body of knowledge (Dama-Dmbok*), a BSc degree in data management or computer science with a ‘significant professional experience in exploration and production’. Also sought is a knowledge of data modelling techniques and cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure), ‘Agile’ methodology, Power BI and Office 365 tools.

Applications for the post are now closed but at the time of writing there is a similar role open at Wood.
