Aperio reports on a 2022 Pulse by Gartner survey of 160 ‘leaders’ in operations, engineering and IT, which found an industry-wide concern over data quality. Aperio has followed up on this with a 25-page white paper on monitoring and improving the health of your OSIsoft PI data. Poor PI data quality impacts analytics and reporting, causing data scientists to spend ‘80% of their time’ on data clean-up. Data quality is a serious problem without easy answers. One client reported that ‘It’s too expensive to manually manage and fix 1-2 million tags’. Enter Aperio’s DataWise. DataWise fixes PI data problems at scale with automatic anomaly detection, root cause analysis, quality scorecards and real time quality monitoring. DataWise offers engines for automatically detecting more than 16 types of anomalies. As we reported from the 2019 SAP in Oil and Gas Milan event, Aperio’s digital fingerprints of PI data can also spot cyber events, a broke, flatlining meter or correlations between sensors.
Siemens has rejigged its ‘Omnivise’ condition and performance monitoring suite for deployment offshore. Omnivise for Offshore (O4O) includes models of typical assets (AC distribution, DC distribution, rotating machines, battery systems and pumps), adding plant data visualization and reporting. The first offshore deployment of the O4O Digital Solution Suite addresses wind farm management but Siemens envisages other oil and gas use cases for the technology. The O4O will be the subject of a talk by Siemens’ Bruno de Oliveira e Sousa on Condition and Performance Monitoring of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Drilling Operations to be given at an upcoming SPE Workshop on the Impact of Digitalization on Drilling Operations in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia,
