The 2019.12.1 release of ResInsight, the open source 3D visualization, curve plotting and post-processing tool for reservoir models and simulations, includes bug fixes and enhancements. ResInsight is developed by Ceetron Solutions in collaboration with Equinor. The tool is a part of the Open Porous Media Initiative and the software is hosted on GitHub.

Tecplot RS 2019 R1 includes a new well path capability to plot grid values along any well path. Tecplot RS can now read CMG SR3 data files.

Rock Flow DynamicstNavigator 20.1 introduces a special mode for wells with a large number of perforations, speeding calculation of models with hydraulic fractures. Assisted history matching and uncertainty has been enhanced as has visualization of calculated parameters. Object-based simulation has been implemented in Geology Designer. In PVT Designer, Herning and Zipperer correlation is now supported for viscosity calculation.

Schlumberger announces that the Ocean Alpha/Petrel 2020 field introduction preview 5 release is now in ‘commercial ready state for plug-ins’. All Ocean library and third-party library are binary compatible with the commercial release. Plug-in developers can now compile and submit for Ocean Store acceptance at the released of Petrel 2020.1. A data model change necessitates a replacement API for 2021. The current API will be obsolete before 2020.1 is released.

Thermo Fisher Scientific has rolled out Open Inventor Toolkit 10.5 introducing a Java build for ‘headless’ servers. The use of the EGL library allows applications to run without starting an X Server. More in the release notes.

V 21.1 of Blue Marble GeographicsGlobal Mapper introduces a new raster functionality and subscription based access to Blackbeard Tanuki, an online data service for pipeline, well, and lease information. The Lidar module has been updated with a new tool to automatically align point clouds with a best-fit 3D transformation. A point cloud change detection tool does just what it says.

Spectra Logic’s new StorCycle storage management software creates a ‘perpetual tier’ of storage either locally or in the cloud. StorCycle scans primary storage data for inactive files and migrates them to the perpetual tier which can be any combination of cloud, disk, network-attached storage or tape. A project archive feature addresses data preservation in seismic research, oil and gas studies and other fields.
