Weatherford, Intel and the IoT oilfield gateway

Gateway embeds Intel security, Wind River cloud with ForeSite production optimization.

At the recent IoT Solutions World Congress in Barcelona, Weatherford IT head Colin Tait presented a digital oilfield technology collaboration with Intel that has resulted in the Weatherford IoT gateway, a means of transmitting data from production equipment in the field into the cloud or data center. The Weatherford IoT gateway leverages Intel’s Secure device onboard service and the Intel Wind River Helix device cloud for device management. Data can be visualized and analyzed with the Weatherford ForeSite production optimization software, released earlier this year.

Tait said, ‘By harnessing cloud computing, advanced analytics and the IoT, we can build an end-to-end digital oilfield solution that yields greater efficiencies across the upstream oil and gas sector.’ The ForeSite platform, released by Weatherford in May 2017, connects and analyzes data from across the production ecosystem to maximize asset performance. Initial focus is on rod-lift systems with planned expansion to other forms of lift, well management and optimization at the reservoir and surface-facility levels.
