Energid provides software smarts to robotic driller

Integrated development environment for standard operating procedures authorship.

Cambridge, Mass.-headquartered robotics specialist Energid Technologies has partnered with Norwegian Robotic Drilling Systems AS (RDS) to tailor its robotics software toolkit, ‘Actin’ to enable RDS’ automated drilling proof of concept. Energid’s technology has been used by Nasa to build simulators for testing its robotic technologies without the need for field trials.
For RDS, Actin monitors and controls the robotic drilling system. Energid claims its software provides an unparalleled level of autonomy, flexibility and safety. Developers can create complex motion sequences for the robots and multi-robot tasks can be built from smaller, ‘human-understandable’ tasks.

RDS’ Roald Valen exclaimed, ‘I never thought it would be possible to create sophisticated multi-robot hand-off procedures using a simple drag-and-drop interface, especially when dealing with as many degrees of freedom as we do.’ Actin 4.0 will be released later this year and will incorporate many of the tools being used by RDS.
