Keith Barnett and Bob DeMan have joined Asset Risk Management as, respectively, senior VP and director of fundamentals analysis and senior VP for client hedging. Barnett was previously with Merrill Lynch Commodities, DeMan with BNP Paribas.

Aveva has opened a new office in Wroclaw, Poland.

Celerant Consulting has hired Maarten van Hasselt as senior VP and Americas sector lead of its global energy practice. He was formerly with GE Oil & Gas.

Chesapeake Utilities has appointed Matthew Kim as VP and Thomas Mahn as treasurer. Kim hails from The Carlyle Group, Mahn from Perdue Inc.

Emerson’s Roger Freeman has been elected to the Fiatech board of advisors.

GE Energy is investing $10 million in an oil and gas training facility in Houston.

The Fraser Institute has published its 5th annual survey of industry executives investigating barriers to investment in upstream oil and gas exploration around the world.

ITF is to launch a ‘cluster group’ for the US to focus on ‘solving major technology challenges hampering exploration and production.’ Member company Shell hosts the kickoff meet next September.

David Zelinski has joined KBR as president of the downstream. He was formerly with Fluor’s Energy and Chemicals group.

Graduates Luke Smallwood and Nathan Collins have joined Midland Valley’s development team.

Caterina De Matteis has joined the Brussels secretariat of the Open Geospatial consortium, OGP, as administrative assistant.

OSHE Consultants are offering a ‘NEBOSH’ international technical certificate in oil and gas operational safety course in Houston.

Larry Denver has joined OVS Group as president. Founder and past president Jose Alvarez stays on as CEO. Denver was previously with Knowledge Reservoir.

Senergy Development Solutions has appointed Rob Fisher as director of its subsea, pipeline and construction management business. He hails from Technip.

Former head of reservoir engineering at Addax, Giel Krijger, now heads-up sales and marketing at Serafim.

Alan Roachell has joined Union Drilling as VP HSE and training. He was formerly with Rosewood Resources.

Following its acquisition by Lloyd’s Register, West Engineering Services’ owner and founder Mike Montgomery is to retire as president but will stay on as an advisor. Lloyd’s Register Americas president Paul Huber takes over the presidency. Duco de Haan remains CEO and MD of the ModuSpec unit.
