Shell deploys inventory optimizer from Terra Technology

Demand-sensing software informs Shell lubricants supply chain management.

Shell has acquired a worldwide license to Terra Technology’s demand sensing and multi-enterprise inventory optimizer, for use in its lubricants business. Terratech’s Demand Sensing monitors consumer behavior and market influences to predict future demand. The multi-enterprise inventory optimizer generates daily inventory targets that are aligned with current conditions, even in volatile markets. Shell will use the technology to improve supply chain planning and assure product availability while limiting the risk of excess inventory.

The global deal was signed following a successful pilot in Western Europe and South East Asia. TerraTech’s demand sensing and math-based optimizers were developed for the retail segment. Clients include Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Kraft Foods, Kimberly-Clark and Kellogg. More from TerraTech.
