Austrian RFID1 and personal safety solution provider Identec has announced ‘IndustrySmart,’ (IS) a RFID/sensor network certification program for oil and gas assets.
The IS program ensures that product tags are interoperable and meet ATEX2 and other certification standards used in oil and gas and other verticals.
The IS program sets out to enhance the quality of applications and services provided under Identec’s
‘WatcherSeries’ (Oil IT Journal July 2008), a personnel safety system offering mustering solutions, monitoring of lone workers, voice communication and access control. IS products feature long range reading stations leveraging an RSSI3 baseline concept for connection to real time field data.
Identec claims to be ‘number one’ in safety solution provision in the North Sea and Middle East. Customers include ConocoPhillips, Statoil and Swire Oilfield Services.
The company recently raised $7.5 million from private investors. The cash will be used to expand the group’s US operations where the company is a member of the Oil and Gas RFID Solutions Group (www.oilit.com/links/1105_21). More from www.oilit.com/links/1105_22.
