GRI finalizes oil sector reporting standard. Drilling standards work group announced. OGC officializes netCDF. PODS 5.1 roll out. PPDM’s Petroleum Education Task Force. SEG-D REV 3.0 tweaks.

The Global Reporting Initiative is calling for comments on the final draft of the Oil & Gas Sector Supplement. GRI’s sector-specific reporting guidance will enable companies make their sustainability reports more relevant and easier to produce. Comments close on 20th July 2011—www.oilit.com/links/1104_62.

Drilling regulators around the world have formed a working group to develop global offshore drilling standards. US offshore drilling supremo Michael Bromwich is leading the initiative.

The network common data form (netCDF) is now an official Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard. netCDF was originally developed for the earth science community for the management of multidimensional array data. The self-documenting format embeds semantic metadata and is developed and supported by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)—www.oilit.com/links/1104_63.

The Pipeline open data standards organization has approved release 5.1 of its PODS data model. The release includes new ‘one call’ ticket and boundary tables, damage tables and other model enhancements—www.oilit.com/links/1104_64.

PPDM has announced the Petroleum Education Task Force, an international roster of experts who will work with PPDM on the development of an accredited PPDM Data Management Education program—www.oilit.com/links/1104_65.
