Knowledge Reservoir, USA repurpose NASA control rooms

NASA’s operations center expertise to support pipeline industry’s safety push.

Knowledge Reservoir is teaming with United Space Alliance (USA) to provide pipeline operations center personnel with training and support. Houston-based USA supports NASA with, recently, a $50 million extension to its contract with the Kennedy Space Center. The companies are offering assistance in an accelerated schedule for compliance with the US Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).

Knowledge Reservoir CEO Ivor Ellul commented, ‘We are combining our oil and gas expertise together with USA’s operation control knowledge to help the pipeline industry meet the new regulations. Many of the issues noted in the PHMSA control room management directive reflect the same issues that the space program has been dealing with for decades.’ The joint venture will offer operator training/certification, quality and risk management, compliance assessment, safety assessment and failure mode analysis—www.oilit.com/links/1111_65  (K-Systems) and www.oilit.com/links/1111_66  (USA).
