Teradata, OpenGeo team on open source spatial database

GIS appliance runs ‘GeoServer,’ the reference implementation of the OGC’s standards.

Teradata has entered the GIS market with a combo of a Teradata database appliance running and GeoServer, a suite of open source geospatial and visualization applications. The solution offers high performance access and in-database analytical processing of location and business data. The solution is supported by OpenGeo, a specialist provider of open source geospatial solutions. Teradata’s GIS promises speedy access to real-time geospatial data delivered via a flexible architecture. GeoServer works with visualization and GIS tools such as Google Earth, Esri ArcGIS, PitneyBowes, MapInfo, and uDig. Users can access business data through web applications, mobile devices, and desktop GIS clients. GeoServer is the reference implementation of the Open Geospatial Consortium web feature and web mapping service standards.
