Siemens endorses VR Context’s virtual reality engine

New Walkinside links to Comos plant engineering package, adds Seabed Builder field layouts.

Engineering behemoth Siemens has endorsed the latest V6.0 release of VRcontext’s ‘Walkinside’ virtual reality toolset. Walkinside has been architected around a web server and Citrix-based remote 3D visualization. A new ‘Seabed Builder’ function can be used to create VR models of subsea field lay-outs from ESRI ArcGIS data. A new software development kit allows for integration with enterprise applications.

Bernd Kokkelink, head of R&D and Comos product manager with Siemens said, ‘We have leveraged the new, more flexible architecture to integrate Walkinside with our Comos plant engineering software. It is now possible to implement comprehensive basic and detailed engineering processes in 3D across the whole plant lifecycle.’ Walkinside was used by Total E&P Angola to simulate real-life workflows and to train operators (Oil IT Journal July 2011).
