Speaking at the 2011 EU Congress of Chemical Engineering in Berlin last month, Martin Gainville (IFP Energies Nouvelles) presented a proposal for an industrial strength interface that will permit hydrodynamic point models to be swapped seamlessly between software tools. The CoLan Hydro special interest group is led by IFP with representation from Kongsberg, SPT Group, Total and Infochem. Hydro models are used to study multiphase flow in pipes and have application in nuclear, industry and oil and gas production (particularly in modeling slugging).
Prototyping has now progressed to the point where the partners are inviting expressions of interest in the development of a comprehensive software interface which will allow interaction between hydrodynamic components, unit operations and process models.
