Following Berkeley workshop, OpenEM.org launches

Virtual institute’ to showcase electromagnetic applications and R&D.

A new ‘virtual institute,’ OpenEM.org has been launched following last year’s Berkeley workshop on the future of electromagnetic geophysics in the USA (NSF/EAR-0901046). The web-based institute is a showcase for electromagnetic (EM) applications and R&D in geophysics, including the joint interpretation of EM with seismic and other methods. The community-maintained ‘virtual institute’ aims for an open dialogue and information exchange. Anchor communitarians hail from Schlumberger, USGS, NSF, BP, Western Geco and ExxonMobil—along with a cohort of US institutes and universities (but non US members are welcome). OpenEM.org currently has 190 members. More from, err, www.OpenEM.org!
