Schlumberger Information Solutions has announced the 2010 release of its flagship Petrel upstream geomodeler. Petrel 2010 adds new tools for exploration ‘risk management,’ management of multiple, large seismic volumes, a new modeling-while-interpreting function that automates structural framework building and more. A new ‘Petrel Database’ is claimed to improve scalability and multi-user collaboration. Other novelties include a drilling visualization plug-in, well path modification while drilling and automated design, placement, and completion optimization.
This month also sees the official opening of the Ocean Store—a shop window for Petrel plug-ins from third parties (see also Oil IT Journal November 2009). Plug-ins are rented, not sold, and prices range from $50 to over $50,000 for a one year rental. More from www.oilit.com/links/1005_28.
