The move expands ABB’s IO portfolio and offers SPT Group’s products, notably Olga and Mepo, access to a larger market. Initially, the companies will collaborate on the control and monitoring of subsea installations such as wells and production networks. This is a growing market according to Per-Erik Holsten, manager of ABB’s Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals business in Norway who said, ‘We hope to be able to introduce pioneering technology faster on the Norwegian continental shelf where the potential is vast. The industry uses more and more seabed facilities connected to topsides and land-based facilities where effective control and monitoring are vital success factors.’
