Schlumberger, through its Information Solutions (SIS) unit, has acquired exclusive rights to develop products and solutions for the upstream drilling and production market using Aspen’s Asset Builder. Asset Builder is an integration framework that enables dynamic asset models to be built from components such as Aspen’s own HySys, Schlumberger’s Avocet and other tools including Microsoft Excel.

SIS president Olivier le Peuch said, ‘Our goal is to drive operational efficiency by eliminating the divide between upstream and downstream business processes. The oil and gas industry has responded favorably to our integration effort. This step will provide the upstream market with accelerated technology delivery and a unified market presence.’
Operations Manager
In a separate agreement, SIS acquired the rights to develop or embed another Aspen package, Operations Manager (OM), in its own upstream products. OM provides infrastructure capabilities including role-based process data visualization, an ‘open simulation environment,’ performance scorecarding and event management.
