New standards from OpenGIS, GeoRSS, GEOSS

System of Systems GIS interoperability demo, GeoRSS location-aware news feed standard unveiled.

The Open Geospatial Consortium has released a Simple Features Profile fro its Geography Markup Language specification. This specifies 2D geometry features such as Point, Curve, Surface etc. and is claimed to ease development of GML-based software for communities that share a common data model.

GEOSS

Interoperable Web Services, another OGC spec, were successfully demonstrated in the Global Earth Observing System of Systems (GEOSS). GEOSS showed complex 4D wind data and online meteorological processing services being published, discovered, and accessed over the internet.

GeoRSS

A new standard for geo-enabling RSS feeds, GeoRSS, was shown at the Location Intelligence 2006 conference. GeoRSS embeds location into RSS feeds for display in a GeoRSS-enabled client. GeoRSS is a simple XML format for associating a point, line, boundary or bounding box with an RSS item. More from georss.org.
