SBM chooses AspenTech for FPSO design

HySys technology key to simulation and optimization of floating production systems.

Floating production storage and offloading systems (FPSO) specialist SBM Offshore has signed a multi-year license agreement to expand its use of AspenTech’s engineering solutions. The new agreement provides access to HySys Upstream which SBM uses to support design and optimization of its oil and gas production facilities. The HySys Upstream option adds industry standard methods for handling petroleum fluids to the base HySys engineering package.

Wyllie

SBM Chief Engineer Mike Wyllie said, ‘AspenTech’s simulation applications are tailored to our industry. Providing our engineers with flexible access to more tools will enable us to make better design and investment decisions, in addition to increasing our engineering efficiency on upstream projects.’ Other SBM Offshore units GustoMSC, SBM-Imodco and Single Buoy Moorings have already standardized on HySys. The new agreement expands usage and adds support for other applications including dynamic simulations and the design of heat transfer equipment.

Wheeler

AspenTech senior VP Blair Wheeler added,’HYSYS is recognized as the leading platform for simulation and optimization in the oil and gas industry. SBM’s decision reflects the value it can deliver to clients by optimizing the design and performance of production systems.’
