IPoVSAT comms for Newfield Exploration

Schlumberger’s high tech satellite-based communications offer voice, email and data to the Gulf.

Houston-based Newfield Exploration has selected Schlumberger Information Solutions for the provision of a high bandwidth, dedicated satellite link to its Gulf of Mexico offshore operations. The link is built around a high-speed Internet Protocol over Very Small Aperture Terminal (IPoVSAT ).

Newfield IT Manager Mark Spicer said, ‘We have rationalized the number of network providers we use and now have advanced voice and data communications at reduced cost.’

IPoVSAT technology provides two-way email and Internet-based communications over a satellite network using a cost-effective method of sharing network capacity.

Schlumberger’s Jean-Michel Rouylou said, ‘IPoVSAT provides oil and gas operators working in remote areas of the world with a reliable satellite connectivity solution beyond voice-over-satellite connections, allowing users to use email, the Internet and video across a more efficient remote communications platform.’
