Invensys controls Kashagan super giant

AGIP has awarded the instrumentation, control and safety contracts to Invensys Process Systems.

AGIP has selected Invensys Process Systems to equip its Kashagan super-giant oilfield in Kazakhstan with integrated control and safety systems.

Multi-million $$

In what is described as a ‘multi-million dollar contract,’ Invensys will supply a package of control and safety solutions including the Foxboro I/A Series Distributed Control System and the Triconex Emergency Shutdown System to both offshore and onshore facilities.

2009

The contract, which will run until 2009, has been awarded to the field’s operator the Kazakhstan Caspian North Operating Company. Kashagan is the largest oil discovery in the last 30 years. Recoverable reserves are estimated to be up to 13 billion barrels, with a peak production rate of 1.2 million barrels per day. The investment for the full development of the field is nearly $30 million over 15 years. Invensys Process Systems reported operating profits of £33 million on sales of £768 million last year.
