Aveva uses Leica laser scan

3D laser scan technology aids ‘as built’ facility modeling.

At the SPAR conference in Houston this month, Aveva Solutions presented new laser scanning technology that allows retroactive capture of digital plant design data. 3D laser scanning hardware from Leica Geosystems is used to capture plant geometry ‘as built’. The ‘point cloud’ data is then fed into the plant data management system. Laser scanning hardware can resolve point accuracies of 6mm over 50 meters—important for accurate 3D tie-in and clash detection. Aveva claims significant savings on rework costs with the new technology.
