Marathon’s $63 million outsource deal

The 8 year contract confirms EDS as leading upstream outsourcer.

IT service behemoth EDS has been awarded an eight-year, $63 million outsourcing services agreement by Marathon Oil Co. to improve its computing capabilities and consolidate its server environment. Under the agreement, EDS will provide mainframe, mid-range and distributed server management services to Marathon, letting Marathon concentrate on its core business and strategic initiatives.

EDS oil industry boss Amanda Mesler said, “EDS has proven experience in developing innovative solutions to clients in the energy sector, and we look forward to putting that industry expertise to work for Marathon. Our services, industry knowledge and global capabilities will allow Marathon to focus on its core business, reduce IT costs and enable its employees to pursue strategic IT initiatives to enhance Marathon’s competitive position.” EDS claims to be a leading outsourcing provider to the energy industry. EDS’ offering spans E&P, refining, petrochemicals, transportation and marketing. Global energy customers include BP, ChevronTexaco, ExxonMobil, and ENI.
