CGG signs with NNPC and sells transcription business

CGG has renewed its ongoing processing services contract with Nigerian state oil co NNPC. Meanwhile it has sold its US-based transcription business to Ovation Data Services.

The National Nigerian Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has renewed its agreement with CGG for seismic data processing services. CGG and NNPC-unit IDSL have jointly managed the Port Harcourt facility since 1985. The center uses CGG’s GeovecteurPlus seismic package to process all seismic data acquired in Nigerian territory. Actual number-crunching is shared between the center and CGG’s ‘Mega-Centers’ located in the UK and Houston.

In a separate deal, CGG has sold its US-based tape transcription business to Ovation Data Services. The transcription unit was acquired along with PECC completed back in 1997. The announcement heralds what Oil IT Journal understands will become a more extensive agreement for data management and online services between CGG and Ovation.
