The International Association of Oil and Gas Producers
(IOGP) has published Report 456 (V2), covering recommended practices
and key performance indicators for process safety in the
upstream. The report was produced in response to major incidents
and sets out to improve safety by learning from past events with less
serious outcomes. The report is a free download from the IOGP bookstore.
The Safetytech Accelerator* has announced round two of its Safetytech PoC Fund. The Fund is to disburse £1 million in support of safety proofs of concept, in particular, digital products and services ‘that can significantly enhance safety and reduce risk in safety-critical industries and infrastructure’. Projects funded in round one included M Squared (early detection of gas leaks on an LNG tanker), Numberboost (AI-driven real-time error detection), Multisensor Scientific (leak detection) and Smartvid.io (rigsite falling object detection). A recent blog post on the US NIOSH
website offers advice on choosing fatigue monitoring and detection
technology. FMDT comes in two forms, predictive (based on the sleep
patterns and work hours) and monitoring (of eyelid movement and blink
rates). Detection technologies that are common in high-end motor
vehicles are now also available as wearable devices or mobile apps that
can be used in almost any situation. NIOSH recommends considering key
factors in FMDT selection including primary purpose, validity and
reliability and user acceptance. There is no one size fits all. NIOSH
warns that, ‘such devices can obscure the underlying causes of fatigue
and should not be used as a primary safety measure’. More from NIOSH.
TekSolv warns that hazard
Communication is one of the top ten OSHA ‘most cited’ violations. In
2019 alone, there were 3,671 violations. Organizations need a written
Hazard Communication Program to ensure that the information concerning
classified hazards is transmitted to the employer, contractors,
sub-contractors and employees. TekSolv’s Hazard Communication Training
program combines health hazard training and hazard communication

The HALO Trust. Neptune teams will demonstrate their systematic
approach to incident management, root cause databases and learning
review techniques to their counterparts at HALO. HALO will share its
experience of clearing landmines and other unexploded ordnance* from
