Spotfire has announced a global reseller agreement with Landmark
Graphics for its DecisionSite data analysis and visualization package (see Oil
ITJ Vol 8 N° 12 for review of Spotfire DecisionSite use in the upstream). The
deal allows Landmark to embed Spotfire’s analytic application within its DecisionSpace
Decision Management System (DMS). ESRI Spotfire has also announced a new product for oil and gas
professionals. DecisionSite MapConnect is an extension to ESRI ArcMap that lets
users merge GIS and tabular data, verify data quality, identify important trends,
and provide ‘compelling’ visualizations. Lyle John Lyle, team leader, geological and geophysical interpretation
services for ChevronTexaco Energy Technology Company said, ‘MapConnect speeds
up our identification and high grading of prospective areas, by letting us interactively
filter results in several attribute and spatial dimensions simultaneously.’ Multiple uses DecisionSite MapConnect combines ESRI map data with E&P
project data so analysts can uncover hidden relationships, trends, and patterns
and make faster, higher quality decisions. DecisionSite and DecisionSite MapConnect
can be rapidly configured to support many applications that help exploration
teams make better, faster decisions about how to allocate capital investments
among prospective wells and oilfield assets. Example applications include prospect
assessment and validation, environmental impact analysis, pipeline security
and safety management, and many others. Louwaars Gerrit Louwaars, senior geoscientist global exploration,
Shell, added, ‘MapConnect opens new ways of analyzing and visualizing spatially
distributed data often faster than you can think, leaving its potential entirely
to the user’s imagination.’
